Paige DataCom Solutions releases composite cable to support Open Supervised Device Protocol

Paige DataCom Solutions has released the first all-in-one cable designed specifically to support the Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP), a standard developed by the Security Industry Association (SIA) to improve security and interoperability among access control and security products.  “OSDP Access Control is the clear choice for those looking to make our buildings more secure and intelligent,” said David Coleman, VP of business development for Paige. “With more and more access control professionals installing or upgrading systems to include OSDP-enabled devices, there is a real need for a single cable that will help to easily and cost-effectively deliver an advanced, secure and complete OSDP solution.” Smart card technologies Paige, formerly known as Paige Electric, boasts over 10,000 customers from 10 offices across the globe Paige’s new cable for OSDP is a composite construction that provides four plenum-rated components together in a single jacket. With OSDP, access control readers need only two low-capacitance pairs compared to the six to 12+ conductors typically used in legacy systems using the Wiegand protocol. OSDP significantly improves security by enabling continuous monitoring that would identify failed, missing, malfunctioning or tampered readers. It also supports AES-128 encryption, preventing hackers from intercepting data transfers or spoofing a card read, a capability required in U.S. Federal Government applications. The OSDP protocol also delivers advanced functionality, improved ease of use and greater interoperability, including the support for smart card technologies, advanced user interfaces, and the remote configuration and upgrade of readers. The OSDP Access Control Composite Cable is available through major security distributors, including ADI, Anixter/WESCO and ScanSource. Diversified wireless products Paige, formerly known as Paige Electric, boasts over 10,000 customers from 10 offices across the globe. Paige manufactures and distributes a diversified set of electrical wire & wireless products, connectorised cable and accessories to the Asset Protection, Datacom, Illuminated Sign, Industrial OEM, Irrigation, Landscape Lighting, Precision Agriculture, and Submersible Pump markets. Paige is employee-owned, from factory worker to CEO, and has more than 200 employees.
