Carlisle Support Services appoints public and private security expert, John Lambert as Managing Director of Security and Events in the North. With a background that stems across 15 years within the public and private sectors, John is well-placed to advise, facilitate, and manage this division for all Carlisle contracts. Responsible for the delivery of the Northern security and events division for the business, he will ensure that the division continues to deliver market-pioneering solutions to the existing contracts within multiple sectors including Healthcare, Manufacturing, Retail and Transport. Perception of the security industry John’s extensive background extends into several voluntary roles including Chair of the Liverpool City Security Council, Deputy Chair of the International Professional Security Association (IPSA), Director of the National Skills Academy for Security, member of the Security Skills Board, and Director of the National Association of Healthcare Security. John holds member status of the Security Institute and the Emergency Planning Society Alongside this, John holds member status of the Security Institute and the Emergency Planning Society. Within these voluntary roles, John campaigns for better working conditions for front-line team members and aims to improve public perception of the security industry. Contract retention and organic growth Chief Operating Officer at Carlisle Support Services, Adrian White said: “Our Northern Division is our largest revenue driver for security services and covers key strategic regions in Manchester, Liverpool, and Birmingham. The last twelve months have seen us implement a firm structure and develop clear operational regions for optimal cross-contract collaboration. We have seen good contract retention and organic growth. John's appointment will cement this position and provide us with a platform for growth. John understands this industry and has the mindset and attitude that we want to take Carlisle forward.” On his appointment, John added: “Since joining Carlisle Support Services in February this year, I have been incredibly impressed at the culture of the business, the professionalism and capability of my colleagues, as well as the strong and often long-term relationships we have built with our customers. To be appointed into the Managing Director role within a business of this quality is an incredibly proud moment for me, and I'm excited for the months and years ahead.”
Jane Farrell, Head of Security, Sodexo for UK & Ireland, was unanimously elected Chairman of the longest established security trade association at the recent meeting of the IPSA International Council in London and the 27th July 2017. Farrell has been working as the Deputy Chairman since 2014. Justin Bentley, IPSA CEO said, “I am delighted that Jane has been elected as Chairman of the Association. She has been steadily increasing her involvement in the Association since joining, and her familiarity with both the Association and the security industry make her the perfect person to keep the Association moving forward. Her vast experience in training and quality fit perfectly with the ethos of the Association.” Bentley went on to say “On the 11th September, the Association will be holding its Annual General Meeting combined with a conference and networking luncheon at BMA House, Tavistock Square, London. This event, will be a great opportunity for attendees to meet the new Chairman and hear about her vision for IPSA.” Changes in IPSA Jane Farrell has been leading exciting new changes within IPSA along with the elected members of the Management Board and the International Council since March of this year when the former Chairman, Stuart Naisbett resigned due to personal commitments. Most of these changes will be revealed at the AGM in September. When asked how she felt about the new appointment Farrell said. "Following two years as Deputy Chairman of IPSA, I am delighted to accept the post of Chairman of the Association, a position that I will fulfil to the best of my ability. I am proud to be the first woman to lead the Association in its 59-year history and look forward to working with the management board, International Council and other industry bodies to expand the benefits of belonging to IPSA to our members.”
The East West Security Conferences are held to promote understanding and exchange ideas and information Attending the 34th East - West International Security Conference organised by Capricorn Conferences and Exhibitions on 21st and 22nd November 2016 at the Best Western Universo Hotel in Rome, Italy, were delegates from commercial, private and public sector organisations from the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Albania. Conference Co-Chairmen, Patrick Somerville, Vice President of IPSA, welcomed the delegates to the conference and to an intensive two days of presentations and discussions on a wide range of security issues conducted by speakers from the UK, Italy, USA and Russia, with simultaneous translation in English and Russian. Curbing fraud and cyber-crime Global trends in the private security industry, and the growing threats and counter measures necessary in relation to fraud and cyber-crime were examined, the increasing use of sophisticated biometric and other technologies now available to make security solutions more efficient and cost effective were explored The safety of senior staff operating or travelling in places of conflict and current thinking and practice on close protection featured in the programme together with the need for due diligence procedures to prevent insider crimes and fraud affecting banking and financial sector organisations. New EU Global Strategy For Foreign And Security Policy An overview of the new EU Global Strategy for Foreign and Security Policy embracing both foreign and internal security and the action plans for the next five years were presented with details of some of the joint investigation and enforcement operations conducted by Europol in cooperation with Member States and Non-EU partners. Several operations demonstrated the successful measures taken to disrupt high level organised crime syndicates involved in human trafficking, child exploitation, vehicle theft and counterfeiting and other cross border and international crimes. Measures for cyber protection An overview of the new EU Global Strategy for Foreign and Security Policy embracing both foreign and internal security and the action plans for the next five years were presented The urgent need to ensure that cyber protection was embedded in all organisations was emphasised by the current wave of intrusive cyber activity threatening national infrastructures and governments as well as commercial and transport operations. Delegates were urged to address this in their organisations ensuring that awareness, systems and protective measures were understood at the highest level and effectively implemented to deal with unlawful hacking and cyber security breaches. These measures needed to be alerted and effective in nano-seconds to prevent corruption and loss of data, resources and systems. The development of the internet of things and enhanced mobile phone technology and applications raised new issues of data security and cyber-crime opportunities that were both startling and severe in their potential for doing harm. Understanding best practices The East West Security Conferences are held twice yearly to promote understanding and exchange ideas and information between those engaged in managing security in public and private sector organisations in United Kingdom, the Russian Federation and other countries in Eastern Europe.
