Aiphone, the pioneer in security communication and access control solutions, announced the integration of the IX Series IP video intercom with Genetec™ Security Centre via Sipelia™ and Omnicast™. This collaboration enables organisations to harness the capabilities of an advanced IP video intercom system, fostering a more efficient, cohesive, and responsive security ecosystem. Challenges in security operations The integration addresses critical challenges in modern security operations by unifying communications and video management within the Security Centre. Organisations can now register IX Series audio and video intercoms to Sipelia™ for centralised security and access communication, while leveraging ONVIF streaming through Omnicast™ for comprehensive video management. This unified approach enhances communication efficiency, situational awareness, and operational responsiveness across the entire security infrastructure. Videos from the IX Series Security teams are able to interact with the IX stations from any location with Security Centre Security teams are now able to interact with the IX stations from any location with Security Centre client apps (Security Desk, Genetec Web App, Genetec Mobile). The integration enables real-time video call management, door release control through the Security Centre app, and the ability to transfer or rollover calls to outside lines, ensuring that no communication is missed, and the right personnel can properly verify visitors before granting access. Videos from the IX Series can be viewed on call-in, streamed live, and recorded all within Security Centre. IX Series integration with Security Centre “As the security landscape continues to evolve, technology integration is more crucial than ever. We’re excited to bring our IX Series integration with Security Centre to the global stage, a solution that reflects years of collaboration with Genetec across diverse markets worldwide,” said Sean Peterson, Director of Product, Marketing and Support at Aiphone. “This integration empowers organisations globally to streamline their security operations while reducing complexity and costs.” Collective passion for innovation “As we continue to build upon a long-standing relationship and shared successes with Aiphone, we welcome them to another facet of this strengthened collaboration between two industry pioneers,” said Josue Velasquez, Product Line Manager at Genetec Inc. “Our collective passion for innovation will empower us to effectively address today’s challenges and solidify audio as a cornerstone of the physical security industry.” The integration supports Genetec Security Centre version 5.12 and above.
Insights & Opinions from thought leaders at Aiphone
Organisations of all types have made it a priority to better track who is coming and going inside their facilities and on their property. This can include an HVAC technician who needs to be inside a building for several hours to fix a faulty air conditioning unit or a parent who volunteers each week in their child’s school. Technology-based visitor management With considerable advancements in visitor management systems in recent years, organisations are now benefiting from technology-based visitor management solutions that integrate with an existing access control system replacing paper logs and paper name badges. By leveraging the visitor management system capabilities in an access control system, organisations can enhance security, streamline the visitor process, and improve the visitor experience. Increased security When integrated with access control, a visitor management system can provide valuable information Knowing who is inside a building at any given time is the foundation for a successful security programme. This goes beyond an emergency event, such as if a building needs to be evacuated due to a fire, or ensuring that only individuals with the proper credentials can access certain. When integrated with access control, a visitor management system can provide valuable information, such as the location of the visitor inside the building and whether that individual has attempted to stray from an approved access area. Monitoring the visitor Just as it is important to manage which areas of a building a visitor can access it is equally as important to know how long a specific visitor is on the property. A parent volunteer could be given a specific visitor badge that enables them to access certain areas of the school for a predetermined time. A visitor management system would be able to alert school personnel if the parent volunteer overstayed the allotted time. The same would be true for a contractor on site making repairs. Visitor logs can provide detailed information about the contractor, such as how many hours or days a week they are onsite. Customised access levels By giving a visitor a badge, building administrators can customise access levels for that individual Not every employee or visitor inside a space, such as a hospital or a corporate office, should have complete access to all areas of the facility. This also includes visitors who should not be permitted to freely roam as they please. By giving a visitor a badge, building administrators can customise access levels for that individual, such as giving access to common areas or a specific meeting room. An employee who may be visiting a corporate office in a different geographic area can be given extended privileges, such as access to the employee break room, meeting rooms, and designated workspaces. Streamlined visitor management process By having a visitor management protocol in place, businesses can streamline their visitor management process. For visitors, this can mean the difference between an easy enrollment process, enabling them to gain access quickly and safely to the building. Reducing wait times also ensures improved staff efficiencies and helps to create a more welcoming environment for guests. Features like pre-registration and self-check-in can further enhance the convenience of the visitor experience. With an integrated visitor management and access control system in place, organisations can better manage visitor traffic, enhance security, and create a more welcoming environment for guests.
Connectivity is literally the difference between products operating individually and those combined into a more powerful system. Many of the devices that connect today’s security products reflect mature technologies that have been proven over time. However, innovation is also driving the need for new approaches to connectivity and networking. We asked this week’s Expert Panel Roundtable: What are the new developments in networking and connectivity for security?
Integration of access control and video has been a reality for decades. The combination of our industry’s dominant technologies provides a one-two punch when it comes to maximising the security benefits of a system. Access control tracks ‘events,’ while video provides visibility into those events. But the benefits of integrating video and access control are far from static. Rather, today’s systems are becoming even more valuable as they incorporate elements such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the cloud. Regarding integration of video and access control, we asked this week’s Expert Panel Roundtable a simple question: What’s new?
