ZeroEyes, the creators of the only AI-based gun detection video analytics platform that holds the full U.S. Department of Homeland Security SAFETY Act Designation, announced Delaware State University (DSU) has integrated ZeroEyes’ AI gun detection technology and situational awareness platform into its multi-layered security system.
This deployment was facilitated by Delaware-based Advantech, a pioneer in embedded and automation solutions for AIoT system integrators.
Range of undergraduate programs
DSU offers a range of undergraduate programs, fostering academic excellence
Delaware State University, located in Dover, Delaware, is a public university dedicated to providing quality education, research, and service.
Established in 1891, DSU offers a diverse range of undergraduate and graduate programs, fostering academic excellence and community engagement.
Innovative security solutions
Advantech has built a strong reputation in the education sector, serving both K-12 and higher education institutions.
As a community-first organisation, the company has long focused on protecting its clients through innovative security solutions, taking commercially off-the-shelf products, customising them, and integrating them for the unique needs of its customers.
Partnership with Advantech
DSU has kept a long-standing alliance with Advantech to advance its security strategies
DSU has maintained a long-standing partnership with Advantech to advance its security technologies and strategies.
In its latest initiative, the University collaborated with Advantech and ZeroEyes to deploy ZeroEyes’ AI gun detection system, designed to enhance campus safety by identifying potential gun-related threats before they escalate.
Multi-layered approach
“Our clients are constantly faced with the challenge of reassessing how they protect their people and property,” said Ryne Johnson, account manager of Advantech.
“There is no universal solution for facility protection. A comprehensive, multi-layered approach is essential to addressing all potential risks. Systems like ZeroEyes ensure we are proactively addressing threats beyond the building walls, specifically tackling the critical issue of gun-related violence on campus.”
Comprehensive security measures
Advantech worked closely with DSU to identify the most vulnerable areas on campus
Advantech worked closely with DSU to identify the most vulnerable areas on campus and help integrate ZeroEyes’ technology across critical camera streams.
This deployment strengthens the university’s comprehensive security measures, which include visitor management systems, licence plate readers, and reinforced access control points at key entrances and exits.
ZeroEyes’ gun detection technology
“I’m always looking for the most innovative technology to assist us in preventing and solving crime, and maintaining a feeling of safety for our community,” said James Overton, superintendent at DSU.
“I knew ZeroEyes’ gun detection technology was good, but the human element behind it, which minimises false positive detections, convinced me that this was a serious product capable of mitigating false alarms and preventing harm.”
DSU’s existing digital security cameras
ZeroEyes' AI gun detection and intelligent situational awareness software layers onto DSU’s cameras
ZeroEyes' AI gun detection and intelligent situational awareness software layers onto DSU’s existing digital security cameras. If a gun is identified, images are instantly shared with the ZeroEyes Operations Centre (ZOC), the industry’s only U.S.-based, fully in-house operation centre, which is staffed 24/7/365 by specially trained military and law enforcement veterans.
If these experts determine that the threat is valid, they dispatch alerts and actionable intelligence — including visual description, gun type, and last known location — to local law enforcement and school administrators as quickly as 3 to 5 seconds from detection.
Advantech’s expertise in security systems
“We are proud to collaborate with Advantech and support DSU in its efforts to strengthen campus safety,” said Mike Lahiff, CEO and co-founder of ZeroEyes.
“By integrating our AI gun detection technology and utilising Advantech’s expertise in security systems, the university is adopting a proactive approach to safeguarding its community and ensuring a rapid, coordinated response to potential threats.”
