ZeroEyes, the creators of the first AI-based gun detection video analytics platform to earn the full U.S. Department of Homeland Security SAFETY Act Designation.
Has announced that its gun detection and intelligent situational awareness platform has been deployed at Calhan School District (CSD) in Calhan, Colorado. The proactive security technology has been integrated to protect students, staff and visitors at all of the district’s schools.
Proactive threat detection
The ZeroEyes Gun Violence Research Center has recorded more than 120 gun-related incidents in the state of Colorado
In the past year, the ZeroEyes Gun Violence Research Center has recorded more than 120 gun-related incidents in the state of Colorado. Recognising the rising threat of violence, the district has integrated ZeroEyes' AI gun detection system into its existing security cameras to quickly identify illegally brandished guns and reduce response times in the event of a threat.
It is the latest addition to CSD’s multi-layered security plan, which also includes a school security officer with 23 years of law enforcement experience. “While we are incredibly fortunate to have a close partnership with our local law enforcement, we know that in situations where every second counts, technology like ZeroEyes can make all the difference,” said Dr. Donovan Mitchell, Superintendent of CSD.
“Our goal is to ensure teachers can teach and students can learn without worrying about their safety. We hope we never face a gun-related threat on our campus, but if we do, we want to have as many systems in place as possible to combat it—and ZeroEyes is a key part of that.”
District overview
CSD is a highly rated public school system located approximately 30 miles east of Colorado Springs. The small rural district includes an elementary, middle and high school, which together serve approximately 430 students from pre-K through 12th grade.
With a dedicated 90-member faculty and staff, the district is committed to providing a supportive and enriching learning environment. Calhan's mission is to offer students unlimited opportunities to succeed, empowering them to achieve their full potential.
Smart surveillance integration
ZeroEyes' AI gun detection and intelligent situational awareness software layers onto Calhan’s existing digital security cameras.
If a gun is identified, images are instantly shared with the ZeroEyes Operations Center, the industry's only U.S.-based, fully in-house operation center, which is staffed 24/7/365 by military and law enforcement veterans.
If these experts determine that the threat is valid, they dispatch alerts and actionable intelligence — including visual description, gun type, and last known location — to first responders and local staff as quickly as 3 to 5 seconds from detection.
Swift threat response
“Calhan School District’s commitment to safety is a powerful example for schools across the country,” said Mike Lahiff, CEO and co-founder of ZeroEyes. “We believe this integration will greatly enhance their ability to respond to gun-related threats swiftly and effectively, and we are honored that CSD has placed their trust in us to help protect their community.”
