Motorola Solutions announced that key video security and access control solutions meet the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) to secure sensitive information.

The solutions are part of Motorola Solutions’ Avigilon line of video security and analytics products that allow federal agencies to monitor potential threats in real-time to help prevent intrusions, security breaches, internal or external theft of physical or confidential assets, and attempted coordinated attacks from domestic or foreign threats.

FIPS-compliant Avigilon solutions

FIPS requires rigorous testing to ensure products meet stringent standards of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. Motorola Solutions offers FIPS-compliant Avigilon H5A cameras, Avigilon Network Video Recorders, and Avigilon Control Center (ACC) video management software, which meet the 140-2 standard for data encryption while at rest and in motion.

The solutions include a Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGS) baseline and Risk Management Framework (RMF) hardening guide to support required compliance testing.

Access control manager

Avigilon ACM is approved for use in PIV credentialing and Physical Access Control Systems (PACS)

In addition, the Avigilon Access Control Manager (ACM) meets the FIPS 201-2 standard, which means it is approved for use in Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credentialing and Physical Access Control Systems (PACS) and is listed on the U.S. General Services Administration Approved Product List (GSA APL).

FIPS 201-2 requires all federal government employees and contractors to use approved card standards for government-issued identification that ensures the authenticity of the card and credentials, while also facilitating access and mobility across the different agencies and departments.

Real-time and forensic video solutions

Government agencies bear the tremendous responsibility of protecting and defending their employees, civilians, and the nation’s critical infrastructure,” said Mark McNulty, corporate vice president, and general manager, U.S. Federal Government Markets, Motorola Solutions.

Leveraging intelligent real-time and forensic video solutions is vitally important, and the FIPS-compliance of our Avigilon fixed video security portfolio and access control products gives federal agency personnel, as well as regulated industries such as finance, health care, legal and utilities, the peace of mind of knowing the solution has been tested and formally validated against NIST standards.”

End-to-end unified solution

Motorola Solutions’ FIPS-compliant video security and physical access control systems offer an end-to-end unified solution that meets the important data privacy and security standards of the federal government. The solutions leverage real-time video analytics to increase the productivity of security personnel while making monitoring more efficient and manageable to combat attention fatigue and resource constraints.

The technologies help in securing people, assets, and facilities spanning large perimeters for homeland security, city, port, and border security, and on military bases. Motorola Solutions’ video solutions are currently being used by multiple federal agencies including the U.S. Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security.
