An eight-building, a premier office park in Indiana offers 1.2 million square feet of office space. Along with a 14,000 square foot centre with amenities such as a concierge to handle tenant errands, a 6,200 square foot fitness centre, a conference/training centre for up to 100 people, and cafes, there is an on-site auto spa and walking paths & bike share.

Challenges

After a series of facility intrusions, General Manager (GM) and Assistant PM wanted to improve oversight across the complex and provide law enforcement access to better evidentiary content.

When the Konica Minolta Indianapolis Office learned of the improvement initiative, Kevin Hulsey, Account Manager, and Aaron Pieing, Manager, contacted the property management team about the Konica Minolta Video Security Solutions (VSS) practice. In addition to the need for the VSS upgrade, the GM wanted to introduce AI to support their overall corporate initiative to move towards ‘smart’ building in their expansive property portfolio.

Solution

GM wanted a non-obtrusive design so there would be no negative impact on the aesthetics of the building

Video Security Solution Executive Stephen Crump joined the team to handle the site assessment and system design for one of the buildings. The GM selected this location for comprehensive guidance on the number of cameras needed for the coverage that they desired.

In addition to the mechanics of the solution, the GM also wanted a non-obtrusive design so there would be no negative impact on the aesthetics of the building’s design and art display.

Products installed

Through this process, the Konica Minolta team provided information on:

  • VSS platform and how it supported their AI initiative.
  • Cameras for the interior & exterior.
  • Facial recognition options.
  • Mobile apps for monitoring.
  • Detection analytics.
  • Integration with the doors.

VSS capabilities

The GM appreciated the information on all of the options that they could leverage currently or in the future. It was through the assessment process with the Konica Minolta team that they understood what intelligence capabilities existed within their VSS offering.

Our consultation with the Konica Minolta team enabled us to look at options to adopt or review in the future. It is valuable for us to understand the capabilities of the platform. For instance, while we did not select facial recognition for Phase I – in the future this may be a technology for us to incorporate into our plan,” said Office Park General Manager.

Outcome

Konica Minolta team facilitated the integrator’s camera cabling, server configuration, and coordination

The team determined that the building needed eight interiors and eight exterior cameras with intruder detection on the cameras in the lobby. Working with the outsourced IT team, the Konica Minolta team facilitated the integrator’s camera cabling, server configuration, and coordination via on-site and virtual groups.

Because of COVID delays, it took a year before closing the deal, but soon the property management team will be able to demonstrate the VSS deployed in Building #8 to all tenants so they can see the action the property management team has executed.

Video security enhancements

Going forward, Konica Minolta VSS is posed to handle future projects that the property management team prioritises for video security enhancements.

This solution applies nationwide, to organisations that want better oversight of their facilities and priority for detection apps. The story is simple, Konica Minolta can help to provide security via its Mobotix cameras and through its camera apps.
