PSA Security Network is taking steps to help educate security professionals concerning both threats and opportunities related to cybersecurity

PSA Security Network 2014/2015 Review & Forecast

2014 was a year of great change and advancement in the security industry as a whole. We saw an uptick in DIY security solutions focused on residential and small commercial markets. Perhaps the biggest impact to the security market is that more pieces of security solutions are now cloud based, which has created an environment of both uncertainty and opportunity for integrators as it relates to cybersecurity issues and business management logistics that come with cloud based offerings.

Looking forward to 2015, managing cloud based offerings and the cybersecurity risks that come with them will be a major factor. It will impact the entire supply chain and how manufacturers and integrators handle these issues will become key selling differentiators, mostly likely driven up from end user customer demands.

PSA Security Network is taking steps to help educate security professionals concerning both the threats and the opportunities related to cybersecurity. Our objective is to assist our integrator and vendor partners with creating strategic partnership with legal, risk management, and cybersecurity solution providers, helping them stay ahead of the game on this very important topic.

There is also going to be significant change within the video surveillance market. Video analytics is going to lead the way in the next generation of video requirements. Video is no longer being used just for security purposes, but we will see it become part of the complete intelligence packages that end users are using to improve their business operations (such as banks improving line wait times, or retailers figuring out which marketing promotions are working best based on where people congregate on a store floor).

This is an exciting time to be in the physical security market. The pace of innovation is growing at a much more rapid pace, which means that the solutions are changing quickly, but so are the people. One of the challenges we have faced historically in this industry is recruiting the next generation security solution experts. My hope is the rapid pace of innovation will change the perception of security and make it more attractive for the up and comers.
